As a grief counsellor, a common phrase I hear from people who are grieving is, ‘I can be around people all day, and I still feel lonely.
This is especially true for those who have lost a partner but know that it is completely normal to feel alone in your grief. There are ways you can cope with the loneliness and still move forward on your grief journey- this will take time and I encourage you to go easy on yourself and you navigate ‘the new normal.’
Go easy on yourself: Try not to dictate how you should or shouldn’t feel- allow your thoughts to flow freely.
When the time feels right for you, try and socialise again with family and close friends who understand what you are going through.
Try something new: Join a new social group or club.
Animals: Cats and dogs make the best companions. Walking can also boost your mood and help loneliness.
